Shore Trip 2012

Well we've been home for 10 days now and it has taken til now for me to have time to blog about our wonderful trip down the shore this year.

We went the first week of July which is the earliest and the longest we have gone and stayed at the shore.  We used to go in September when it was less crowded but with Rowan in school full-time now that is not as easy as it used to be.

We left on Sunday July 1 and got into Cape May around 2pm.  We stayed at the Grand Hotel which has a suite big enough for the four of us and for Joe and Diane.  First thing we had to do?  Jump in the pool for the girls of course!  Then got changed and went for the must do of dinner at Menz Restaurant in Rio Grande.  After that a quick trip to Washington Street Mall to look around a bit and then we called it a night so we could rest up for the adventure filled week ahead!

Monday we decided to start the day with a trip to the Cape May Zoo before it got too hot and too crowded.  We beat the crowds but not the heat.  The weather all week would prove to be very sunny and warm and very humid at times, could not ask for better weather when you are at the beach/ocean really!

Monday afternoon we headed to Ocean City and Gillian's Wonderland Pier for some rides and fun.

Parker and Rowan ran to the log flume and were soon joined by Lily, the newest member of the Hall log flume fan club!

Back to the hotel in Cape May for dinner at their restaurant for all you can eat crab night!!   Diane ended up leaving with the girls while Joe, Parker and I continued to feast.

Tuesday - BEACH DAY!  There was some hesitation on Lily's part at first but she got the hang of it eventually.

Tuesday night we had tickets to go dolphin watching that I had bought ahead of time during the winter.  When I called to book space that night I was told the trip was going out a little later that night and would be 3 hours instead of 2 because they were going around to West Cape May Point to see fireworks!  Luck was on our side that I called to go out that day.  The trip was great fun, the fireworks were spectacular watching them from the water and we even caught quick glimpses of some dolphins.

Wed was the 4th of July.

We started out the day heading to Sunset Beach so Rowan and Lily and Parker could do a little surf fishing.

We stuck close to the hotel that night and partook in the hotels 2nd annual Red White and Blue rooftop picnic.  It was great fun, lots of games for the kids, good eating and good seating for the fireworks in Cape May that night.

Thursday - back to the beach for the day!  This time Rowan had a boogie board in her possession and was ready to surf. Lily put her swim bubble on and was loving the surf much more than the day before.  And we saw alot of dolphins frolicking in the surf a few hundred yards out!

That afternoon/night Parker, the girls and I headed to Wildwood.  We rode some rides, played some games and then headed back to Cape May and to the hotel again for the land and sea buffet - ie, more crab!

Friday morning the four of us headed to Wildwood again but this time to the Splash Zone water park.  We spent 3 hours there and another 3 on the boardwalk before calling it a day.  While on the boardwalk we decided to do something completely different for our family picture this year.  Old time photos!  We had such a blast.  We started with the pirate pic and then decided to try a gangster picture and based on what we bought we obviously liked that one better!

Friday night after dinner, with the girls in matching dresses, we headed to the Washington Street Mall for one more walk around, a little shopping, some ice cream and a shot at a more traditional family picture.

Saturday it was time to go home again...boo...after the traditional shore departing breakfast at Zoe's cafe we were on our way and home by 200pm.
