Zoo day

So we went to the Zoo yesterday because it was a nice sunny day and it seemed like a fun thing to do. It was Lily's first time there and she really seemed to enjoy it.

Our Trip to NYC

First and foremost - much thanks to Joe and Diane without whom our trip would not have happened. They gave up their weekend to come and spend it at our house with Rowan, Lily and Zoey so Parker and I could go away. Thank you.

Now onto our trip!!

We left around noon on Friday and drove to Princeton Junction to catch NJ Transit into NYC - $20 round trip/person, you can't beat that price. We got into the city and walked a block from Penn Station to our hotel The New Yorker. Small rooms but all we needed at a great price so we were good to go.

Our View

We freshened up a little bit, went the the hotel bar called Cooper's for a late lunch and drinks then back to our room to get ready for our first show, Rock of Ages. We had dinner reservation at Rosie O'Grady's - the food was terrible and I was still so full from lunch that I only ordered French Onion soup that was so tasteless I had 3 sips and was done. Disappointing. Still raining btw but we walked to the Brooks Atkinson theater anyway because it was not too far. Rock of Ages was FANTASTIC! So much fun, all the music from our formative teen years - we had a great, great time - even with the $20 double drinks that Tim ordered ;)

You ever say something really stupid and wish you could take it back almost instantly? This is our Latvian waitress from Rosie O'Grady's - there are no reindeer in Latvia for the record. Enough on that.

Our Show

After the show was over we wandered around Times Square for a bit, ducked into a place called Maxie's for a drink, wandered over to BB King's place for another drink and then gave up on all the rain and headed back to the 24 hour Tick Tock Diner at our hotel where I finally got some food in me since lunch - best pastrami on rye ever. Maybe it was because I was so hungry.

Me in Times Square when it stopped raining for a nano second

Tim and Jillian - back in the rain in Times Square

Saturday morning we got to sleep in - kid free! We made it until 830am - a new record I think. The rain was getting worse on Saturday and Tim was not feeling well from lack of sleep so Parker and I headed out on our own and walked - walked - 3 blocks to the Empire State Bldg. 3 blocks is not bad you say - no it is not - however these were 3 NYC looong blocks in the driving rain that was coming right towards us. We finally got there and marveled at the lack of people only to discover it was because there was zero visibility at the top because of the rain and cloud cover - yeah that never occurred to us on the walk there. So we took indoor pictures and grabbed a cab back!

Checked in with Tim and Jill, they still did not feeling like going out so Parker and I grabbed another cab and went to Times Square again to look for presents for the kids and to wander around. Ducked into the Toys R Us again but it was packed and really not as exciting as it was for us 8 years ago so we left there and wandered around and came across Sardi's Restaurant - THE Sardi's restaurant - the FAMOUS one! Somehow they let us in for lunch and over the course of the 2 days we were in NYC it was the BEST food we had - I was so excited to hit a NYC landmark even it if was a restaurant.

After lunch we met Tim and Jill back at Cooper's in the hotel for drinks - went to rest before Avenue Q then met up again at 530- cabbed over to an Italian place for dinner called Ciro's then grabbed a cab again to our next show Avenue Q. It was a good show, Rock of Ages was better but no regrets seeing Avenue Q at all.

Rain was atrocious still - to the point where the news is showing that NJ Transit was suspending service out of NYCs Penn Station...uhoh...getting home could be a problem?

We cabbed back to the hotel - grabbed drinks at Cooper's and sat at a table right outside the bar - then went up to our rooms for our own snacks and mixed drinks that we disguised in water/soda bottles and sat and talked and people watched and set our clocks ahead (ugh!). Then around 1am Jill and I made a dash through the raindrops to White Castle a block away because we were hungry ;)

Sunday morning we got up at 930am!!! Packed, went down to the Tick Tock for a quick breakfast and then headed back over to Penn Station to catch our train which thankfully was running again. Back to our house around 330pm with two happy kids to see us and two even happier grandparents ;)

Same time next year?!?!?!?!?!

Rowan and the Philly Phanatic

Last Thursday Parker took Rowan and her BFF Enaiya to Pump It Up for open jump night with the Philly Phanatic. He said it was crowded but that the girls had a great time - from the looks of the pics I would say they did too!

The difference between 4 1/2 and 1 1/2 year old girls

One dresses up to be a lady

One gets dressed up for laughs by her big sister

They still both look adorable though ;)
